The Killing Words, in which its members are all anonymous, present their latest album: Abstractions and Dreams. Following from their 2009 debut, Love in the Form of Death and Other Guises, Abstractions and Dreams is the result of a series of vivid dreams.

Enigmatic and impassioned songwriting, Abstractions and Dreams is a careful and measured selection of sobering ballads that envelops your attention. Switching between guitar and piano, the sparse instrumentation was a conscious move – “I wanted a large portion of the songs to be pared back to force me to focus on the lyrics”.

Wavering vocal sensibilities reminiscent of Johnny Cash and Neil Young, coupled with poetic lyricisms, Abstractions and Dreams carves a place between dream and reality – allowing you to float into a subconscious whilst anchoring you to a state of awake.

Written in London, Hong Kong and Tokyo and recorded in their home studio in London against the backdrop of freezing cold 14 hour days, Abstractions and Dreams delivers a familiar warmth that is emblematic of the The Killing Words.
